Leave a Donation in Your Will

By leaving a donation to Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project in your Will, your generosity will support Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project’s future as a precious vehicle for spreading the Dhamma; specifically, through giving women an opportunity to train as fully ordained nuns (bhikkhunis) and teaching others to live more peaceful, harmonious and happy lives. Anukampa Grove Bhikkhuni Monastery is the only monastery in the UK for bhikkhunis. It has been established as a sanctuary of practice and peace for bhikkhunis and visitors alike and your donation will help us maintain and develop it for future generations.

As we cannot give legal advice, please consult a solicitor prior to making any decisions about leaving a donation in your Will.

Your Journey

It is worth making a Will and keeping it up to date, to ensure that your assets and financial affairs are managed according to your wishes and to provide certainty for those you may leave behind.

If you are just beginning your journey and need more information, please start by consulting a solicitor.
If you have already donated to Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project in your Will, please notify us so that we can thank you and gain inspiration from your kind act. You can email our finance volunteers on finances@anukampaproject.org.

Solicitors

You may have a family solicitor you already use. Alternatively, you can ask a relative or friend to recommend one.

Types of Donations

There are different types of donations you can leave in your will. We welcome simple pecuniary donations (a fixed monetary amount) only. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to handle complex donations like residuary donations (the residue of an estate after all other distributions and debts or expenses have been paid) or specific donations (a particular asset, for example an investment, a painting, or any other physical item).

A pecuniary donation is a fixed amount which will devalue with time and inflation. If you would like your donation of money to keep its value over the years, it is a sensible idea to ask your solicitor to index-link it.

Executors

Please do not make Anukampa the executor of your Will. This protects the charity from potential conflicts of interest and also means we do not have to direct our limited resources to this. The executors of your Will are the people who administer it when you are gone. You need to be able to trust them, and they need to be prepared to take on this responsibility. They liaise with the solicitor to notify beneficiaries about their donations and deal with taxes, payments and customs authorities, if necessary. You can name a family member or a friend, or you can use a professional like an accountant or solicitor (who will normally require payment) as your executor.

Amending an existing Will

If you want to make a change or addition to an existing Will, it is very important to use a solicitor to do this. A solicitor can advise if it would be simpler to re-write your Will. You should never write on an existing Will itself, and you should keep any codicil you make, with your existing Will, but not physically attached to it.
